Visit The Egyptian Pavilion at The Berlin Film Festival

Egypt,  "Mother of the world" has meant many things to many empires but when it comes to making movies it is the undoubted ‘Hollywood of the East’ or Hollywood of the Arab world, Egypt takes the role of the biggest film making in the Arab world. There is no comparison between Egypt and other Arab countries in terms of the volume of production.

Today, the number of Egyptian feature-length films has risen from 16 in the late nineties to more than 40 in 2008. Box office records have also risen significantly, as Egyptian movies earned around $50 million while American movies, by comparison, earned $10 million. The quality of movies has also improved both in terms of direction and plot.
